I am learning web programming\coding languages.
Right now, I am learning HTML, then I’ll move to xhtml (it has different rules), and then JavaScript or PHP, and so on.
HTML is not a programming language, it is a markup language.
Anyway, I was wondering about something, right now I’m doing well.
I am trying to remember everything, all the tags, even the things that I do not need,
deprecated tags, tags that do the same thing, old tags, and so on.
I am using http://www.w3schools.com/ to learn.
I created a text document\file, and every time I learn a new subject, I add the subject to the text file, and to make sure I do not forget anything, I code a script using each subject, and check for errors afterward.
I do not use the deprecated tags, and I follow the HTML rules, because in the next HTML version, it will not allow today’s common HTML mistakes.
So, anybody with programming\coding experience, or people with any knowledge about this subject, do you remember everything, or you use the internet sometimes, and copy & paste, instead of trying to memorize.
I reached to the “html Colors” topic in http://www.w3schools.com/, hex value, rgb value, color name.
I am sure you do not need to know the hex values and the rgb values…Or do I? I’m not a microprocessor.
And what about the color names?

Ofcourse you don’t need to know everything by heart, you can always use websites and books as a reference (all programmer/scripters do that at times).
But when you program/script alot in a specific language you will eventually know things by heart.

I’d suggest you to learn the basics by heart and the rest will come with practise and experience.

But NEVER COPY AND PASTE a lot of (critical) code WITHOUT knowing what it does, this will lead to disasters.
When you do need to copy and paste code, make sure you learn what it does before you place it in your products/projects.

And to your other question:
There are only 16 valid color names in the W3C HTML and CSS standards, but the other color names are also supported by alot of browsers, but not all browsers support those additional color names.
However all proper webbrowsers based on the W3C standard will support the HEX values so those will always be displayed correctly.
Thats why you should use HEX values instead.

All I understand, are the codes for HTML and CSS are quite different.
I haven’t checked out XHTML yet, though what is the difference?
Which is best to use … and why?

To keep it simple, HTML is the basis of every website. CSS is a stylesheet which you can use to have the same fonts and colours for example on every web page.

Would it be better to use xhtml over HTML? How does it effect the backend programming if I use XHTML?
