Question by : Need help altering image dimensions that I’m inserting into my website?
Ok, let’s see if I can ask this correctly…
I have a website thru JustHost and am using “their” templates. I’m scanning flyers (w/color, design and text) that need to be “readable”. But no matter how much I alter the size, pixels, etc, the images are shown in the same exact size once they’re on the website.
Now… when working in my website’s “admin” mode, while on the php page (where I’m uploading these images as hyperlinks), I have an option to view the html code, and where the text of the hyperlinked image is, it says the following:

As you can see, I see nothing relevant to the image “size”… Can I “add” something to change the image size? Such as a percentage or dimensions, for instance? Without messing up the template’s “design”?
And I’m saying “design” because I don’t know the proper term for what I’m trying to say, since when I’ve made other alterations in the past to the template’s commands (not sure if that’s the right word either), I notice the template’s design gets distorted… and if I “undo” such alteration, it doesn’t necessarily go back to the way it was once I’ve saved changes :/

I don’t see a class or ID that refers to an image, nor the -tag, only an anchor (which is a link), a division box, etc. In your case, try to post your image in the HTML as:

This is the third part of a multiple part tutorial series on creating html emails from a pre-designed document. Many firms that rely on marketing have a similar scenario: The marketing staff has created various marketing pieces that work great as print pieces, but when they want to do some customized e-mail marketing, the effort boils down to sending attached PDF documents or using template based subscription services. In this session, we are taking an image file that we have exported from Acrobat and importing it into Photoshop to slice and optimize for the web. For a while, the slice tool in Photoshop intimidated me, but it’s actually quite easy to use once you get the hang of it. Simply put, this tool allows you to take an image and literally slice or cut it up into manageable pieces that you can then optimize for the web by converting to various formats such as .gif, .jpg, .png, and others. Then, using the Export for Web and Devices function, these images will all be saved in a folder and you have the option of generating html code (which we will do). This is the fourth tutorial in a series for creating a basic website in HTML without the use of special software programs. In this tutorial, body style margins are addressed to align content flush with the top and bottom of the webpage. html Comment tags are also covered to assist with structuring html code in a logical and aesthetic way. PHP is like C, C++ and Java, you need to use “escape” characters. Escape characters are normally preceded with a backslash, and are there to tell the compiler or other interactive pieces of software (including functions) that a string contains a special character which cannot be directly inserted because it may be msitaken for something else. Every forward slash you use here needs an esaping slash, as may other characters, such as new lines not be shown as a return, but as “\n”. Have a look here:

Furthermore:

There are certain string formatting rules to make sure the string isn’t mistakenly ended or executed by another function, etc.

Furthermore, do you really need ALL that code in one variable?
Try only putting in the parts of the page that are subject to change, this will reduce processing and loading times.

Question by : Any good links or tutorials to become an HTML “pro”?
I’d like to create my own website, mainly to share my artwork. I know the basics of HTML, yet that’s about it. Can anyone give me some good links to take me one step further and aid me in making a beautiful website? I want it to be fully HTML-based, no flash (it’s already hard enough to master HTML and I know nothing about flash).

Check this site out manuelmark.com for an example of what I’m aiming for, sort of.
Agreed that I’d need to know CSS as well, what I meant by HTML-based was that it should be fully useable with an iPad (therefore, no flash); sorry about the confusion.

And that’s an interesting idea! Had never thought about seeing the coding of other websites, will definitely do that; thanks!

Beautiful site that is.

You will need to learn a smattering of CSS as well. But, to get you started on the road to HTML Nirvana, all you need to do is start going to those Web sites that you find aesthetically pleasing and view their html code.

Just right-click on the background of a Web page you like and choose to view the page’s source. A window will open up revealing all the html and CSS code. On my system, CSS documents that are linked can be viewed by clicking the link; but I’m not sure that is also available in Windows.

If you’re lucky, you’ll find Web pages that are done in HTML 3.2 style, using the

, and other “older” tags. A lot of folks are switching or have switched to lowercase tags, or even
tags. Some folks still use the paradigm. But the world is being dragged into the way of doing things.
