What are <META>tags?

a) The <meta> tag provides metadata about the html document. Metadata will not be displayed on the page, but will be machine parsable (ww.w3schools.com). This simply means that <meta> tags are hidden when your website is opened on the internet. Meta elements are typically used to specify page description, keywords, author of the document, last modified and other metadata. The <meta> tag always goes inside the head element.

b) Some Important <meta> tags: The following are the basic <meta>tag: “description”,”keywords”, “robots”, “Author”. “description”, simply describes what your website is all about and it is usually displayed in search engines. Question by clievers: Apache/PHP Form Security?
Hello,

I need to have password protection on a directory and all of its content and subfolders. Essentially it’s a “client area” of a website. In this directory will contain regular php script files to display pages, but there will also be links to PDF files, and regular html websites for beta-testing, etc.

I need to be able to say http://www.site.com/client/client1/* is locked down to only those client1 users specified in a mysql database. For PHP scripts this should be fairly simple in that you can write code at the beginning to check for this. But links to PDF files, as well as running html files in these folders can’t be handled by PHP.

Is there some sort of way in Apache to specify for a directory that a certain PHP script will execute PRIOR to the requested URL being allowed? This way, in this “script”, I could put the authorization code in the script file.

Note: I cannot use .htaccess/htpasswd for this because I cannot have the htpasswd popup box, it needs to be a php form.
Any suggestion on how to do this mod-rewrite? I’m not finding any examples in Google. Thanks.

you should be able to do a mod-rewrite related to that directory that just routes all requests through a validation script

If you are familiar with Blogger then you’ll know that adding AdSense into your blog posts by using the pre-built AdSense gadget is limiting. You don’t have much control over the layout or positioning of the code and can really only put it in the sidebar of your template, or between each blog post.

It certainly isn’t as customizable as WordPress templates are when it comes to monetizing your site, however if you aren’t scared to play around with a bit of code, adding AdSense directly into your blog posts is actually quite simple, so let’s get started.

Obviously I’m going to assume that you already have an AdSense account (if you don’t then you’ll need to register with Google and apply). If you do then log in and grab the size and color that you want. I recommend trying to blend your ad’s in with the same color as your template. A good size to use is medium rectangle unit which I’ve always got pretty good click through ratio’s on.

Paste it into Notepad for now as you’ll need to edit it a bit before you put it into your Blogger template so it display’s correctly. You’ll need to ‘parse’ the code before you can put it into your template. That means replacing the > and < and quotes ” ” with their equivalent html code. You find the codes easily enough by doing a search online – they just don’t display correctly in this article which is why I haven’t included them here.

Once you have your code it’s time to place it into your Blogger template.

Sign into your Blogger Account and click on the Layout of the blog you want to add the code to. Before you make any changes, it’s a good idea to make a backup of your template by clicking on Download Full Template in case you accidentally make a mistake and need to get your blog back.

Click on Edit html to open the Blogger HTML template. You are looking for the code < data:post.body/ >. When you find it, paste your AdSense code immediately above that line. That will place the code at the top of every blog post.

If you want the ads to wrap around the text on the page, just add the div float: right code or float: left depending on the side you want it on around your AdSense code. Don’t forget to close the div at the end of the AdSense code.

Save your template and your AdSense ads should now be in the body of your posts.

If you have been wanting a website of your own for a long time, but have been scared due to lack of HTML knowledge, you can still have a happy home on the web…and I can show you how! The first thing you need to know is that, contrary to popular belief, you do NOT need to know HTML in order to have your own website. In fact, building a website can be so easy that even a child can do it!

The first thing you need to know about building an HTML-free website is that the type of “webhost” or “host” that you need to look for is a website host with a website editor. Sometimes these are called: editors, wysiwyg(pronounced “whiz-e-wig” and an acronym for “What You See Is What You Get) editors, site builders, site editors, or even template builders. But the most important thing you need to know is that you DO NOT have to go with a “free” hosting company that forces advertisements on your page. While companies like Freewebs, Bravenet, Geocities, etc. do provide an easy sitebuilder, they don’t allow you the freedom of your own domain name, FULL control over your website, or add-free webspace. Many non-free hosting companies have easy sitebuilders as well – and you can often get this type of hosting very cheap, as low as per month or possibly less!

When you use non-free website hosting you can use your own domain names, use a more professional @yourdomain.com email address, install different scripts on your website, and much more! And all of this is much easier than it sounds.

The first thing you will need to do to set up your own website, is to purchase a domain name. There are many different domain registrars on the internet. GoDaddy is the one we recommend, however a Google search for domain registration will also give you many different results. Once you have purchased your first domain, you will need to purchase website hosting. Check out my author bio for my own hosting company which offers reasonable hosting services. Once you have purchased webhosting, you will receive information from your new webhost that will contain your new nameservers. You can try to set your domain nameservers yourself by logging into your domain purchasing account, however it might be easier just to call the company you purchased the domain from and ask them to change the nameservers for you.

Once you’ve set your domain’s nameservers, the rest is easy. Login to your new website’s control panel, and login to their particular editor (you, did of course remember to purchase from a website host that had an easy sitebuilder right?) and begin building your HTML free website. Publish it to your directory, and voila! You now have your very own domain, your very own website, and full control over all of it, at very little cost and with NO knowledge of HTML.
