This is the third part of a multiple part tutorial series on creating html emails from a pre-designed document. Many firms that rely on marketing have a similar scenario: The marketing staff has created various marketing pieces that work great as print pieces, but when they want to do some customized e-mail marketing, the effort boils down to sending attached PDF documents or using template based subscription services. In this session, we are taking an image file that we have exported from Acrobat and importing it into Photoshop to slice and optimize for the web. For a while, the slice tool in Photoshop intimidated me, but it’s actually quite easy to use once you get the hang of it. Simply put, this tool allows you to take an image and literally slice or cut it up into manageable pieces that you can then optimize for the web by converting to various formats such as .gif, .jpg, .png, and others. Then, using the Export for Web and Devices function, these images will all be saved in a folder and you have the option of generating html code (which we will do). ABB WINS TWO CONTRACTS FROM THE US AIR FORCE FOR LARGE MOTOR DRIVES WORTH $ 29 MILLION

The Government Projects Include Installation Of Two 69,000 Adjustable Speed Drives, and Replacement Of Two 30 MW Softstarters

NEW BERLIN, Wis., January 4, 2002 – ABB has won a $ 29 million order from the US Air Force — $ 22 million of which funds the replacement of two 40,000 HP motor/drives with two new 69,000 HP AC ABB Medium Voltage drives and motors, at the Arnold Engineering and Development Center’s (AEDC) Propulsion Wind Tunnel (PWT) facility in Tullahoma, Tennessee.

“The project is turnkey, with ABB providing transformers, power converters, motors, switchgear harmonic filters, facility controls – and all construction and installation services,” said Ram Bhatia, director of Medium Voltage Drives, for the company.

ABB’s new drives will work in tandem with two 83,000 HP fixed-speed motors to provide a maximum of 304,000 HP at 600 RPM to the tunnels’ propeller fans. “The drives add the ability to run the fans in adjustable-speed mode, or to start up and synchronize the two fixed-speed motors to run at a constant speed, depending on the test protocols and parameters,” noted Bhatia.

Installation of the world’s largest adjustable speed drive at the NASA Langley Research Center in 1998 helped earn the US Air Force contract. “Seeing that drive at Langley operate the 135,000 HP synchronous motor at over 100 Megawatts – a record – gave the Air Force confidence to move ahead with this wind tunnel retrofit project,” noted Hansueli Krattiger, sales manager responsible for ABB Large AC Drives projects.

A separate $ 7 million ABB turnkey project includes replacing two 30 MW softstarters to start up a total of 18 27,000 – 52,000 HP synchronous motors at AEDC’s Aeropropulsion System Test Facility. The first line is the Title of our home page while the main body of the text above is the <meta>”description”. I guess you are now beginning to appreciate the importance of “description” <meta> tag! Use the first tag if you do not wat search engines to index your site. The second line of code does the exact opposite. If you want your website indexed by search engines, stick this code at the head section of your html code.

I need to have password protection on a directory and all of its content and subfolders. Essentially it’s a “client area” of a website. In this directory will contain regular php script files to display pages, but there will also be links to PDF files, and regular html websites for beta-testing, etc.

I need to be able to say http://www.site.com/client/client1/* is locked down to only those client1 users specified in a mysql database. For PHP scripts this should be fairly simple in that you can write code at the beginning to check for this. But links to PDF files, as well as running html files in these folders can’t be handled by PHP.

Is there some sort of way in Apache to specify for a directory that a certain PHP script will execute PRIOR to the requested URL being allowed? This way, in this “script”, I could put the authorization code in the script file.

Note: I cannot use .htaccess/htpasswd for this because I cannot have the htpasswd popup box, it needs to be a php form.
Any suggestion on how to do this mod-rewrite? I’m not finding any examples in Google. Thanks.

you should be able to do a mod-rewrite related to that directory that just routes all requests through a validation script
